Romangia

_

BETWEEN SEA AND HILLS

Romangia is an area overlooking the Gulf of Asinara located in the north of Sardinia. The area, mainly hilly, includes the territories of the municipalities of Sorso, Sennori and Osilo. It is an area that has always been suited to viticulture, especially in the hilly area and towards the coast , which since ancient times has seen the presence of man as the creator of its riches. Over the centuries, fertile lands and a mild climate have contributed to the success of this region, especially in the wine sector.

The territory of Romangia di Sorso has always been known for its fine wine. For decades it has been, and still is, the Sardinian town of reference, not only for purchasing excellent wines, but also fine grapes, which have contributed to the creation of the best Sardinian and non-Sardinian wines.
The presence of a particularly fortunate geographical context, the location sheltered from the hot southern winds and a climate mitigated by sea breezes all help determine the vines’ strong attitude, finding the right biological balance in soils ranging from sandy to sandy-clayey, and from chalky to chalky-clayey.

THE CRABIONI NURAGHE OR PALA CANNEDDA

_

IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF TIME BETWEEN NATURE AND CULTURE

The archaeological area of Nuraghe Crabioni (or Pala Cannedda), located within the Nuraghe Crabioni winery, in the heart of the historical region of Romangia and in a particularly fortunate position, is the subject of a research project conducted by University of Sassari, in collaboration with the Superintendence of Archeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the provinces of Sassari and Nuoro, the winery and the Municipality of Sorso. Its aim is to analyse the close relationship between natural resources and the aforementioned site.
Between 2018 and 2019, surveys in the area around the nuraghe made it possible to identify the presence of materials from the Nuragic age, with forms (jars, pans, pots, bowls) typical of inhabited contexts.

The “Pala Cannedda Project” and the entrepreneurial initiative aimed at quality production also focus on combining archeology and wine to create paths to enhance and promote the context of Nuraghe Crabioni and Romangia in general.

The oldest wine in Europe

_

Thanks to the research carried out by archaeologists, it has been discovered that the oldest wine in Europe was produced in Sardinia more than 3 thousand years ago. It is not unthinkable that there were already vineyards in the Nuragic era in the Nuraghe Crabioni estate too.
